Skin Rehabilitation Nurses are needed

Skin rehabilitation nursing for the patients who have the problems with their appearance due to burns or injuries increasingly draw our attention. Opinions supporting the development of skin rehabilitation nurses and the establishment of specialized nursing centers in the skin rehabilitation field are being raised.
Health and Disaster Research Center of Red Cross College of Nursing Health and Disaster Research Center (Director Cho, Hee) held conference on the theme of ¡®Current Status of Skin Rehabilitation Nursing and Development Plans¡¯ at the Sejong Center Conference Hall, on the 26th to verify the efficacy of skin rehabilitation nursing and seek the ways to establish the skin rehabilitation nursing as specialized nursing therapy.
Professor An, Eun Sook (Department of Nursing Science, Red Cross College of Nursing) suggested that it is essential to develop the skin rehabilitation nursing course, including dermatology, cosmetology, and psychology, based on the nursing science. Red Cross College of Nursing plans to establish profession course at the continuing education center to enable nurses to acquire Civilian Qualification for Skin Rehabilitation.
Oh, Jung Ok (Director of Skin Rehabili-Center (Clinical Lab & Academy)) said that the skin rehabilitation therapy for the burn patients reduced itching, pain, sense of hardening, protruding tissue, skin strain and wrinkles, which enabled the patients to regain psychological stability and hope. She added that it is urgent to prepare a system for professional skin rehabilitation nurses and establish the specialized nursing centers so that the patients regain confidence about their appearance and return to their normal social life.
Chang Young Chul (Department of Plastic Surgery, Hangang Sungshim Hospital) said that it is essential to specialize nursing in the field of skin/plastic surgery, and establish a cooperation system to enable the plastic surgery to send their patients to the skin rehabilitation center after surgery.
In this conference, prominent skin rehabilitation experts in Japan made presentations on the advanced skin rehabilitation in Japan. Professor Nakajima Hideo (Department of Plastic Surgery, Keio University) introduce the skin rehabilitation centers in Japan. He said these centers are for those who have handicap because of their appearance, and plastic surgery, dermatology, psychiatry, psychotherapists and makeup artists make a team to discuss the best treatment methods.
Professor Simagami Kazunori (Kanebo Research Institute) made a presentation on ¡®Effect and Social Roles of Therapeutic Skin Care, and Professor Sakai Domomi (Tsukuba University) made a presentation on ¡®Effect of Oil Massage on Coldness and Dry Skin Itching¡¯.
